Majority of our planned activities are from September to May. Ignited Members can participate in the following:
Gym & Swim: We have weekly Gym & Swim, where the kids can play at the park and swim at the pool. We usually do not do this activity in December.
By the Book: Everyone shares about a book they read. Sometimes we do something special like going to see "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader". This is usually one time a month.
Public Speaking: a group class to learn and practice speaking in front of others. Meets monthly.
Science Lab: Family sign up for a month and are responsible to teach that months science lab lesson. We have dissected a lambs heart and a frog. We have dug up fossils. We have seen many different chemical reactions.
Arts & Crafts: A family will organize an art or craft for the group each month.
4-H2O (4-H Homeschool Odessa): Is a 4-H Club that meets during the day once a month. It is open to anyone that is Third grade through college and their siblings. This is to help teach parlimentary procedure and citizenship. To be actively competing in 4-H, students need to be involved in the county they live in. You can register for 4H at https://texas.4honline.com/Login.aspx The Ector County 4-H blog is found at http://ector4-h.blogspot.com/ .
Field Trips: Family choose a month and organize a field trip for the group. We have been Fiddlesticks Farms, Sandhills Rodeo, Permian Basin Fair & Expo, Science Extravaganza at MC, and Police Department to name a few.
Socials: Back to School, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine, End of the Year
State or World Fair: In the Fall, families choose a state on even years and a country on odd years to research. They will present they present their state or country in creative way and tell everyone about it. Also they will make dishes from that state or country. We will eat and visit together.
History Fair: Spring of 2011 is our first year to do this. We are wanting to present to each other something we learned in History.
Science Fair: Students will display a Scientific Method Poster of a Science Problem or a Scientific Collection. They will be interviewed and judged on their project.
Spelling Bee: MACHE hosts a Spelling Bee each year.
Field Day: A day to enjoy being active. We have games and races. We also bring a picnic lunch and visit.
Yearbook: Everyone contributes photographs, pages, and news articles to a yearbook that is distributed at the end of each year.
Prom: The Prom is held in March of each year. It is for 9th-12th Grade.
Sports: We will help you get in contact with competitive Sports like Warrior's Basketball and the private school track meet.
Things we would love to do in the future depending on finding help or participants is National Geographic World Geography Bee, Choir, and Band.
We are open to any suggestions to help in our children's education.
